"What's a girl to do when her parents have split up; her mum's trawling Tinder; and one of her best friends has decided not to invite her to the biggest party of the year, which she then has to watch unfold on everyone else's social media? If you're a girl called MC, you get mad as hell, that's what you do. But what begins as one girl's private, no-holds-barred rant soon snowballs in the most public way possible."--… (altro)

'I'm loving My Life as a Hashtag SO MUCH. Gab's writing is delicious, as always...a sensationally good read.'FIONA WOOD

A cautionary tale about the dangers of social media. Like the tag line on the blurb which says "For those who have ever regretted hitting Send". Set in Melbourne, MC wins a scholarship to a prestigious all girls school in Year 9. She finds it difficult to settle that year and so creates a secret blog about the other girls. Fast forward a year and a half and she has a tight knit bunch of friends (most of whom were mentioned in the blog...you can see where this is going can't you?). Then MC and a girl called Annick fall out over a boy at a party. This leads to silent treatment of MC by Annick and eventually the ultimate insult that she is the only one NOT invited to a huge party at Annick's house. In retaliation, and due to misreading the "tone" of a text message, MC vents her frustration in her blog by creating a series of doctored clips of celebrities saying "Fook Annouk!" (The girls nickname for Annick). Months later, the fight has settled down and they are just patching up their relationship when these so called hidden videos go viral with radio stations trying to find the "Annouk" that has upset so many celebrities. When the truth is revealed, MC's life becomes the hashtag #MCWhataB.
I did not warm to the main character as she seemed like a self-centered teenage bully but I guess that is the point - it is the bully's perspective. Her musing over her father's new girlfriend who might be pregnant, her mother's appearance on Tinder (we must never speak of this) and her brother's retreat into himself are all a bit laboured. It will be interesting to see what the students make of this.
For Year 9 and older due to the "Fook" and other similar language and the mature themes of MC wanting to sleep with Jed, the boy who causes it all. ( )
