Locked safely away in Shepherd's nest, Claire is unaware of what stirs aboveground. Her time is occupied fighting a war of another kind. Due to her mate's relentless exploitation of their pair-bond, the nature of their link has grown consuming to the point that Claire has difficulty differentiating where her feelings begin and his end. Under its influence, she is forced to sense the man behind the monster. She can feel the truth of his terrible history. Claire can see the source of madness that drives Shepherd to do such terrible things: Svana. Claire is desperate to open his eyes, but no matter her progress, Svana is not yet done with him. Tholos is coming apart at the seams, and Shepherd's men can do nothing to stop it. Real war is on their doorstep, and unless the Alpha tyrant is willing to pay the ultimate price, everything he has sacrificed will have been for nothing. Publisher's Note: Reborn is a dark Omegaverse tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. Some scenes are written to be disturbing. Though situations may be interpreted as romantic, this is a story about the effect of extreme circumstances on the human psyche and the consequences of obsession-not a standard romance. If such material offends you, please do not listen.… (altro)

Seriously messed up how this ended.
I invested a LOT in this story, like crying buckets at the end. The author pushed it all the way so that there was still something that could have been further resolved, a bit of a better ending, she alluded to it and hinted at it, but instead of giving us what she was leading up to, we get "The End".

Be prepared.

Edit

Just read that "Alpha's Control" will fix this. :) ( )

Since this book is the third of a trilogy, I'm just going to repeat my review here since it really covers the entire series.

This one is not for the faint of heart but if you like your sci fi romance gritty, if say you enjoyed [b:The Last Hour of Gann|18589656|The Last Hour of Gann|R. Lee Smith|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1380286253s/18589656.jpg|26331984], you would probably like this one. The hero is not a nice guy and he treats the heroine poorly. She is not a doormat or a pushover however. I'm not going to kid you. Bad things happen. But if you don't need your sci fi romance to be all sunshine and roses this is great stuff.

This is the third of a trilogy and you really need to read all three of them. I'd really consider it one long book. So the world building is excellent. There is no info dump. Just the farther you get into the story the more things become clear. The writing is in 3rd person mostly from the POV of the heroine. There is however quite a bit from the hero and some from various other characters. There is a lot more to this story than just the relationship between the hero (anti hero?) The writing style is immediate and you are drawn into the story quickly and deeply. The author does a great job of making you, throughout the 3 books really believe in the love of the two leads even after the way things start out between them but it does take all three books before the hero becomes someone you can like but he never becomes a "good guy". I read the trilogy for a few different reasons. I wasn't familiar with Omegaverse and was curious. I wanted to learn more about Cain's work after reading thoroughly about the copyright court case and related DMCA takedowns. I heard it was amusingly bad and was in the mood for something quick, simple, and amusing.

As far as Omegaverse, it was exactly as I expected.

As far as the copyright court case, my take is that in order for a violation to occur, it must be an original work, and I don't see anything particularly original in the trilogy. It is a collection of bog-standard romance tropes with a thin veneer of characterization. This isn't even the first het Omegaverse work, or the first non-con Omegaverse. The DMCA takedowns appear to be utterly unfounded: Cain does not own the concepts of Omegaverse, dystopias, taming of the 'bad boy,' or rape. And let's be clear - that's all these contain.

As for the final part: It was just as bad as I had heard, and just bad-bad. Not so bad its good, not so bad its amusing, not junk-food bad. Just...bad.

*There's no real worldbuilding to speak of. We know there is at least one dome, and a disease, and an uprising. We know this is Omegaverse fiction. What we don't know is the structure of society, its culture, its religion, or government system, its factions, its history, its....anything. We know it has a giant underground prison but even that isn't fleshed out beyond "We survive by licking mold from rocks and having these sweet tribal tats that are never explained." Its not just generic - its empty.

*There is no characterization to speak of. As I said for the first book, characters flip-flop as needed to move the plot along, and don't have distinct voices or personalities. Shepard is cruel unless he isn't, Claire is bold unless she isn't, Svana is clever unless she isn't. No one has a consistent character, nor do they have an arc to explain these rapid changes.

*There's a lot of rape, physical abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, forced miscarriage, child murder, etc. These events largely serve no purpose. There are no content warnings for this. There's something masquerading as one, but its really just another ad for the book.

*The sex is boring, repetitive, and largely glossed over. Part of these is compounded by the physiology of the characters being vague—sometimes they are described as having claws, for example—but mostly its just slapping the same words in the same order. She slicks, he ruts, he knots, he roars, ad nauseum. Like the tryhard edgeloard ( )

OMG. I spent the last 20 minutes I was reading it crying. The end devastated me. I read 2&3 back to back, so I was so immersed in that world. The very end is kind of what I like. It's not really the HEA I like, but it makes me think. I can't wait for 4. I read the first chapter that was included in my ebook, so I'm hoping for more Shepard and Claire. ( )

Epically heartbreaking.

How to summarize Reborn to adequately express in my opinion how amazingly well written and addictive this story was, expressing myself without giving away any spoilers, that would ruin it for others is not an easy feat, but here goes.
This third instalment in the alpha's claim series was beautifully heartbreaking but was also the most romantic in terms of emotions and feelings.
The love between our two main characters Claire the omega and Shepherd the Alpha actually shone from the pages: you didn't need the words from Claire to know she loved shepherd even if she had a hard time admitting it to herself.
Shepherd well I felt from reborn the main thing that came across to me was his immense need to experience real love, something he has never really had defiantly not from his psychotic ex-lover, he just wants Claire to love him: he has realised and regrets past actions but genially believes, if wrongly, he did them out of love to keep his mate safe.
Questions are answered and actions are explained everything is running so smoothly then, and this is the part I struggled with absolute tragic MAYHEM!!!!
What I hated most about this story is actually what made it so epic and makes Addison Cain such a good writer.
you can never imagine what is coming round the corner, a total train wreck of a storyline.
I hoped, I prayed and I bawled my eyes out, and believe me getting me to cry is a feat in itself, I have the emotional range of a teaspoon usually and very few books make me cry well this did I was absolutely gutted.
My heart was in my throat till the final words luckily I was left with a profound sense of hope that I am clinging to. A brilliant piece of fiction that I really enjoyed.
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
