Pretty good haunted house story with some fun characters. I enjoyed it and will read her again. ( )

Spooky Haunting!

This is no cozy ghost story as author Darcy Coates plops the reader into the Marwick House where no one can seem to live in the house for a very long time. There is one powerful ghost that refuses to let anyone share the house with her and she will do anything to kick them out.

Until a new neighbor, Anna moves in that is down and out with her life as she wants to try to start over in this house. Her neighbor, Jo, has seen families come and go as long as she has lived next door. She becomes friends with Anna and tries to help Anna with living in the house with the ghost. But the ghost has other plans and no matter what they do, the ghost does not want to leave.

Thoughts:

Darcy Coates once again weaves the story around the reader to the point that you feel all the emotions the characters feel as they deal with this ghost and all the antics she stirs up to make everyone want to just run out the door.

The book slowly builds up the tension and anxiety from the beginning taking you straight into the depths of Marwick House not letting you go till you reach the end and keeping you deep into the haunting of the house! Giving this one five "Chills and Shivers" stars! ( )

The ghost story junkie in me loved the entire idea of this book. It's the first of Darcy Coates' books that has received less than 5 stars from me. While it was a great story in every haunted, goose-bumpy way...it went on way too long and there were some easily answered questions in the story itself that remained unanswered at the end. In spite of that I have to say that Darcy Coates is one of the best supernatural/ghost story writer that I have ever read. ( )

Two troubled women who live next door to each other, Jo, whose past haunts her with guilt, and Anna, an abused woman who is hiding from her partner in the haunted house next to Jo. Anna thinks the ghost is benign, but is it? What happens when Anna tries to live her life and when Jo tries to befriend her? The plot revolves around these two characters who are well developed and their friendship is set against the backdrop of Anna's haunted house as they seek to each be free from their past as well as from the ghost that haunts the house. This is a gripping story and a quick read - it is well written and keeps the pages turning. Her characters are well done and the plot is good, if a bit predictable. Still, even if predictable it is worth a read. Coates writes well and tells a good story wiht good characterizations. ( )
