Young Adult Fiction. Young Adult Literature. HTML:

Inspired by Judy Blume's Forever and Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, this novel that Andrew Smith calls "beautiful, enchanting, [and] exquisitely written" is a new classic about teenage relationships, self-acceptanceâ??and what happens when the walls we build start coming down. A Kirkus Best Book of 2017!

Adam Thorn doesn't know it yet, but today will change his life.

Between his religious family, a deeply unpleasant ultimatum from his boss, and his own unrequited love for his sort-of ex, Enzo, it seems as though Adam's life is falling apart. At least he has two people to keep him sane: his new boyfriend (he does love Linus, doesn't he?) and his best friend, Angela.

But all day long, old memories and new heartaches come crashing together, throwing Adam's life into chaos. The bindings of his world are coming untied one by one; yet in spite of everything he has to let go, he may also find freedom in the release.

From the New York Times bestselling author of A Monster Calls comes a raw, darkly funny, and deeply affecting story about the courage it takes to live your truth.… (altro)

Not as memorable as some of Patrick Ness's other recent novels, but entirely
enjoyable, beautifully written and with poignant, familiar characters. If it was from another author, I would have given it four stars, but I expect a lot from Mr. Ness. ( )

***AFTER READING vr. 28 juli 2017***
This was such a quiet story. And I really don't know what to think about it. other than I absolutely loved it. But I don't really know why?

This is why I read so much thrashy books the ones that have a vaguely literair feeling to it makes me feel stupid. Not capable to express my feeling through examples. But I truly enjoyed it. Is this a young adult novel btw? Because it didn't feel like it even if the main characters were 17/18? Or did I read too many bad YA?

***before I had the book***

I WANT THIS BOOK!

The cover is right up my ally. And a youtuber I'm a fan of recommended it... although...

I have no idea what's it about. ( )

I was given an ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t sure where the dual plot lines were going but they tied together nicely at the end. The main plot and character is a teenager named Adam, but there are also brief moments of a lost queen and a trapped spirit of a murdered girl. That sounds weird but the stories of hardship and grief have surprisingly complementary parallels. There were powerful themes about family and teenage relationships without getting preachy about it as the whole book felt very personal. Loved this book! ( )
