This book is a winner whether you are sharing it with just one child or a whole storytime group. Little Pip is a penguin, and if there's one thing penguins do exceptionally well, it's SWIM ! But, there's a first time for everything, and Pip is feeling scared about his first time in the water. Pip tells his parents all the things he is worried about, and they offer encouragement and understanding. For each fear that he mentions, his penguin parents counter it with something good that might happen if he can just overcome his reluctance and take the plunge. Great to use with children who have anxiety about swimming, or about any new experience. ( )

This is a good book for kids. It has the valuable lesson of trying things they may be afraid of and seeing that it might not be so bad. Another one of those that can lead to doing a story about a time they were scared to try something and did it anyway.

The rhymes in this book flow with a near perfect cadence. Pip-pip is scared. He is worried about the water. He is worried he might drown, might get eaten, might get cold, etc. But with some convincing from his parents, he will find his bravery and learn to jump. This book is better read aloud. ( )

This is a really cute little book about a little penguin who is afraid of the water. With his mother's encouragement, he finally decides to try the water. When he gets in he discovers how much he really loves swimming. I would use this book for kids who may no like change or trying new things. I think this book would be appropriate for k-4th grade. ( )

Little Penguin can't swim, so he doesn't want to go into the cold water...….this presents a big problem for Little Penguin.
