This Revolutionary War girl is helping supply soldiers by doing all the feminine spinning and knitting she detests, but she's also discovering who she is beyond gender stereotypes. This story's sort of problem (it doesn't have much of one, and I kept waiting for it to define itself better) centers around whether her older brother, Ben, can go to war. Her father is very reluctant to give his blessing, but eventually does. Meanwhile the main character learns something about her strengths and comes of age. ( )
