This anthology contains twelve brief Pete the Cat stories, most of them also published separately, either as early-readers through the I Can Read imprint, or as smaller stand-alone picture-books. Selections include:

Pete the Cat and the Bad Banana, in which our cool cat hero turns his back on his favorite treat for a time, because he ate a banana that went bad. This is also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Go, Pete, Go!, in which the Aesopic fable of The Tortoise and the Hare plays out, as Pete takes the role of the Tortoise, pedaling along on his bike, while his friend Turtle (ironically) takes the role of Hare, zooming along in his race car. This is also available as an individual story book, with stickers.

Sir Pete the Brave, in which knight-errant Sir Pete must rescue his love, Lady Callie, from a (seemingly) marauding dragon, who turns out to simply be lonely. Also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Rock On, Mom and Dad!, in which Pete realizes how much he owed to his loving parents, and searches for a way to properly thank them. Also available as an individual story book.

Pete the Cat's Train Trip, wherein Pete, his mother, and his brother Bob take a train trip to see Grandma, and Pete gets a behind-the-scenes look at the engine room. Also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Scuba-Cat, in which our favorite blue feline goes on an underwater adventure, looking for seahorses. Also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Valentine's Day Is Cool, which follows Pete's conversion from an anti-Valentine's Day Card position, to a decisively pro-Valentine's Day Card approach. Also available as an individual story book, with stickers.

Cavecat Pete, in which a prehistoric Pete enjoys a picnic with dinosaur friends. Also available as an individual story book, with stickers.

Pete the Cat at the Beach, in which Pete's brother Bob helps him to overcome his fear of the water, and our cool cat learns to surf. Also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Pete's Big Lunch, in which Pete's eyes are bigger than his stomach, but his friends are more numerous than his extra food. Also available as a My First I Can Read book.

Robo-Pete, in which Pete builds himself a robotic double to play with, when all of his friends are busy. Also available as an individual story book, with stickers.

And finally, Construction Destruction, in which Pete takes charge of the refurbishment of the school's playground. Also available as an individual story book, with stickers.

With such a wealth of Pete the Cat stories, I would imagine that this collection will prove quite popular with young fans. That said, although the artwork was as bright and colorful as ever, I found myself distinctly underwhelmed by the stories themselves. I understand that they are meant to be quite simple, textually speaking, as so many of them are My First I Can Read books, but the result simply wasn't that interesting to me. I also found it strange that whereas in the main, large-format picture-books, Pete's friends are mostly non-cats, in many of these stories, almost everyone around him is feline. When did that happen? I'm not really the right audience for this one - I only picked it up because I am reading the entire picture-book section at work, and this one was shelved there - so I would still recommend it to determined Pete the Cat fans, as long as their mom and/or dad understand that these selections aren't quite as much fun for the grownup reader.
