Solid, simple retelling and updating of the FF's origin story. Well written and draw, and the characters are interesting and different enough from their 616-counterparts to be compelling.

My only gripe with it is that they changed Victor's last name and I consider his original name to be essential to his character. But, oh well, I suppose it's not the end of the world... ( )

Ultimate Fantastic Four, Vol. 1: The Fantastic - Adam Kubert, Mark Millar, Brian Michael Bendis
The thing is that I didn't get that much new or original out of this, but it was a fun retelling. It did include the Baxter Building as a think tank, teenage versions of the Fantastic Four, and Victor Van Damme - I know, I know - before he became Doom.

Fun, a quick read, but I'd hoped for so much more. ( )

An origin story for the Fantastic Four. These superheroes were never exactly my cup of tea, but it's interesting to learn where they came from and why they stay together. ( )

A negative zone transportation experiment gone awry seemed like a reasonable update of the 1961 first-to-the-moon story. But I think changing the accident that gave the FF their powers from having stemmed from Reed's hubris to the result of sabotage breaks something fundamental.

Maybe I'd feel differently if it was a great story with great characters, but it wasn't. ( )
