I love this charming book! The tale of a little chair that travels around the world, moving on as one person's need for it ends, only to arrive at the family it started with, just in time for a new generation. The illustrations and writing and lovely, both grounded and fantastic, and it doesn't hurt for us to imagine our things finding value beyond the back of the garage.

The cover art of this book invites you to read this book to a child during quiet time, but the boy on the chair gave me the first question of, "Why does he look so sad?" After reading the book, I realize that Boo is not sad, but just a child who finds many uses for his favorite chair. As with many childhood belongings, Boo eventually can't use the chair and it is passed on. The book follows the chair as it's usefulness is reinvented by several new owners. I could see reading this book to a child faced with giving up toys or other belongings that he or she has outgrown. It was very enjoyable to see the many different locations (adventures) that the little blue chair travels. My favorite part of this book is the diversity of characters, where the diversity is normalized instead of emphasized. As a preschool teacher, I look forward to reading this book to my students as it will lend well to dialogic reading. ( )

This is the story of a little blue chair. It follows the chair through it's many owners and uses. It starts with a little boy named Boo. He does everything with his favorite chair until he grows to big for it. His mother puts the little blue chair out on the lawn with a sign that you can take it and a truck driver picks it up. The truck driver sells it to a lady in a junk store where it sits for many years until it's sold to a woman who uses it as a plant stand. When she puts it out for someone to take it ends up on a boat for the captain's daughter to sit on. Over the years it is used on an elephant ride, as a bird feeder, in a contest, on a Ferris wheel, owned by another little boy, borne aloft by balloons, and lands in a garden of daffodils where a familiar face finds it. The chair comes full circle back to Boo and his daughter.
This is a lovely story, beautifully illustrated and would make a wonderful addition to any family library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. ( )

This is the story of a little blue chair that belongs to a little boy, but when he outgrows it, the chair moves to a different owner and is used for a different purpose. As we follow the chair's travels, we see a diverse group of people, and the chair is used for a diverse purposes, but it is always perfect for the task at hand. At the end the chair returns to its original owner, now grown, and he restores it and gives it to his daughter.

The story is easy to follow, and it is fun to look for the chair in the illustrations. The illustrations are in muted colors and rough strokes, but there is a lot of detail and they deserve more than a quick glance. The cast of characters is diverse and shows people of all sizes and colors. Although there are a few complex words, most of the story is appropriate for an emerging reader, with short sentences, plenty of white space, and relevant illustrations to help decipher words on each page. All in all, I liked it. ( )
