Yay!

Avengers (2016-) #1 - Mark Waid, Mike Del Mundo, Alex Ross
I'm glad to see I enjoy this series, even though I'm not crazy about the art. Of course, this all has to do with kink. I'm into sexy looking Vision art and I find this less sexy. And yes, it does definitely influence my opinion of the comic, so much so that I knocked down one star. It didn't do it for me, not as much as I expect a Vision related title to be. I enjoyed the cover much more than the interior art, but I got this variant:

Yay! Vision related cover :D And I should say the art isn't bad, but it's painterly in a way that doesn't work with this writing for me. I'm not crazy about it, but it's technically quite good.

That being said, this storyline ties into one that I'd conveniently forgotten about. But it worked: I remember thinking 'this will come back' after reading All-New All-Different Avengers 13 and it didn't. Just like Hank Pym didn't come back for a while after he was shown in Uncanny Avengers.

I'd come close to forgetting and then there the storyline was...

This turned out to be more effective. I didn't realize what Kang was talking about and when I did, it felt diabolical. Oh, that child? Right. That was obviously going to come back to bit Vision in his shiny metal ass. Or, y'know, punch his face in...

The Spider-Man storyline - where Parker tries to ingratiate himself to the Avengers and Spider-Man is asked to join a Deadpool-less Avengers - is actually quite well woven into the Kang storyline. Parker tries to prove that him funding the Avengers is good because he's built a Quinjet for them and because he has a 360 degree view of the city - and then boom. No, I mean, literally, they see an explosion and they have to go save Vision from Kang. Parker basically goes 'look, over there' and runs off to jump into his Spier-Man jammies and join them.

This is also going to be interesting: Vision was keeping something from the Avengers and that's going to cause some internal tension. Many of the Avengers end up disliking Spider-Man - and when Thor reassures him not everyone dislikes him, he shoots back 'finally, the epitaph I've been looking for! That's going to cause division within the team, no doubt. Actually, Spider-Man quit the Uncanny Avengers because Deadpool so a member others dislike can be a huge issue.

This isn't all that funny. It has it moments, but it's all the gravitas of assembling a new team, even if some members are from the old team and thus known quantities. And this makes sense. It may get funnier as times go on, especially with Parker/Spider-Man in the mix. But for now, I'm quite happy with this series.
