Nicole is the only member of the family to travel from Virginia to a small Michigan town for Uncle Stan's funeral. Though they kept in touch with weekly phone calls, Nicole had never dared to go visit Stan as it would have made her controlling parents furious. They hated that Stan had given up a successful career as a cardiologist to move to a small town to make maple syrup and give tours of his maple production, and besides, Nicole is kept so busy as a mid-level defense attorney at her parents DC firm, a career she doesn't really like and knows she isn't that good at. But when Nicole is the sole heir to everything, including Stan's house, she can't shake the feeling that Stan didn't commit suicide, as the good-looking and very friendly Medical Examiner verified. She also finds that Stan's best friend had a very good motive for murder. For once in her life, Nicole does what she wants to do, staying and investigating her uncle's death.
A cozy with some maple talk, this was a fun story. I'll continue with the series. ( )
