Quick impression: Sure, this is a children's book, but I say that children of ALL ages will enjoy it if they are fans of trains. This is a nice, big picture book with good photos of historical and modern trains. The text does pack a lot of good information. I found myself learning a new thing or two, and the book really is pleasant to read. ( ) This book is good for a teacher to use when talking about different forms of transportation. This book has very good information and pictures for the children to look at. The children can read this book as well. This would be a good book to keep in your reading center for children who are interested in trains. This book provides a short summary of the many different types of trains. It tells when the styles were created and about the different fuels that they use. There are beautiful, color pictures on each page. History teachers can use this book to have students create a timeline of when each train was created. They can also locate the different countries where the trains are located. An art teacher can have students create a model of one of the trains. Science teachers can use the book to introduce the different types of fuel and how they work. Math teachers can use the book to have students create word problems about how long it will take a train to arrive at a certain destination. English teachers can have students use the glossary in the back and have students create sentences with the listed words. This book is a survey book written in short, factual sentences. Each page has many pictures, and there is even a fold out section. This book also contains a table of contents with pictures, a glossary, and an index. The organization is very easy to follow, and many of the pages follow the exact same set up. What better way to convey in a book the majesty of a train than a huge 13-inch-by-10-inch photo of one? Even readers who are not train buffs will enjoy examining these pictures over and over again. This book is full of gorgeous photographs and the bonus of unusual or little-known trains beckons to kids of all ages. A good balance of need-to-know facts and astounding tidbits will keep older readers (including parents) interested. The size of the photographs and the book itself are especially appropriate for kids seven or under "Wow!" and "Cool!" were the dominant reactions from my grandchildren. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
