"Future ages will wonder at us, as the present age wonders at us now!" That line is foreman of Pericles' many public speeches. Pericles is one of many famous greek people. Pericles talked about Athens becoming the first democracy, and it did! Several great philosophers in Greece were either killed or executed such as, Socrates and Euphiletus. Several other Greek city-states were impressed by Athens' democracy, but when they tried it out it didn't work to good. Sparta and other southern Greek city-states failed at trying democracy and ruined the entire idea for themselves. Spartan slaves were mistreated and killed, unlike in Athens where there was more respect. Women also were respected more and had more abilities like going out in public in Sparta and could be second-class citizens in Athens. The Greeks believed in many gods such as Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. They worshipped and made sacrifices to the gods commonly. The Greeks invented the Olympics, Wrestling, Running Races, Discus and Javelin throwing, Boxing, and Chariot Races.

The "Daily Life in Ancient Greece" book is very educational. It is a nice book to read if you're studying Greece. I definitely learned from this book and had some fun reading it. Greece is much more sophisticated then I realized. This book has a decent Lexile and reading score. I think you should read this Nonfiction book if you want to learn something new. ( )
