Az élelmiszerhiány ellen küzdve az emberiség agresszívan írtja a rovarokat ami nem meglepő módon mindenféle problémákhoz vezet, Brazíliában méteres savköpő bolhák jelennek meg. A könyv egy szájbarágós ökológiai figyelmeztetés, elég gyenge színvonalon megírva. A címadó zöld agy tűnt csak egy picit érdekesnek. Igen nehéz elhinni, hogy ezt nem egy kezdő ismeretlen író írta, hanem Frank Herbert egy évvel a Dűne után.
A regény egyetlen pozitívuma az, hogy nagyon rövid. ( )
Before Dune Herbert was a workman like fellow, and toiled in relative obscurity. In this case he wondered, "What if the insects are coming for us?" A team of explorers are sent off to Brazil to discover if this is true. ( )
Synopsis Socialists on earth are trying to remove every insect except for mutated/hybrid bees and bad things start to happen. My Thoughts I've read all the Dune books by Herbert and loved them. However, every other book I've read by him has not been very enjoyable. I am convinced that if it weren't for Dune Herbert would not be the name he is today. Basically, bugs are taking over the world because the Communists in China and South America are trying to wipe them out and failing miserably about it and lying through their teeth. This story is about 3 people trapped in the middle of Bug Country and how the evolving bug supermind is trying to communicate before everything is destroyed. This felt like a mix of Greenpeace/PETA propaganda, with McCarthy like paranoidism and some very slow adventure story. Lots of introspection and "thought bubbles". I think David Lynch's movie version of Dune would be a perfect example of how much this was used in this book. I think I'm done with Herbert. Well, I guess not. I mean, at over 20%, I agree with the assorted 2-star reviews. Maybe when it was fresh and we didn't understand ecology much, or maybe for people who like Herbert's take on exploring ideas of religion, power, politics, etc. But I didn't even like Dune, so, never mind.
Sembrava il figlio bastardo di un indio Guarani e di qualche contadina dell'altopiano sertao che avesse cercato di dimenticare la schiavitù del sistema 'encomendero', "mangiando il ferro", che nel loro linguaggio significava amoreggiare attraverso le sbarre di un cancello.

Dalla giungla si sentirono strane storie... insetti divenuti enormi... creature dalle sembianze umane, ma i cui occhi avevano quel particolare scintillio degli insetti. È un romanzo di fantascienza diverso e brillante dello stesso autore di 'Dune'.
