A no-nonsense insight into the workings of Silicon Valley. A biography of an entrepreneur, worked as a PM at Facebook, also gives an intro about the underpinnings of AdTech. As a fan of many Silicon Valley companies, this book is kind of a myth buster. I thoroughly enjoyed. ( ) this guy's got some serious cojones. He dishes out all the dirty secrets of Silicon Valley and their cutthroat culture. It's like 'The Social Network' meets 'Game of Thrones'! Martinez doesn't hold back and he's not afraid to burn some bridges. He's a real-life chaos monkey himself, stirring things up in the tech world. This book is not for the faint of heart, but if you want a peek behind the curtain of the tech industry, 'Chaos Monkeys' is the way to go. Highly recommend. Finished it but all in all a waste of time, unless you find the ins and outs of online ads and how you are "targeted" utterly fascinating. When Martinez dissed ad blocking software it was truly all over for me. And that's not even mentioning the author's misogyny, backstabbing, greed, egotism, reckless behavior, etc., etc., on display in page after page. Honestly there are better books that "expose" the ugly side of Silicon Valley. This book is several things. 1) A great introduction to how Silicon Valley tech really works. I've worked in tech startups for two decades, and this is exactly they kind of stuff which often happens but is rarely publicly discussed. 2) An enthralling memoir of one of the most interesting people around in tech. Middling for a rock star or international war correspondent, but vastly more interesting than most of the people in tech. 3) Insights into how Facebook made critical product decisions in what was to them initially a non-core area, and later core to their revenue. Particularly, multiple mistakes, political squabbles, etc., all ultimately rendered irrelevant through a tangential success, followed by going all-in on the winner. 4) A spectacular bonfire of bridges. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

"The industry provocateur behind such companies as Twitter and a nascent Facebook presents an irreverent exposé of life inside the tech bubble that traces his hedonist lifestyle against a backdrop of early social media and online marketing, sharing critical insights into how they are shaping today's world."--NoveList.
