Unbeknownst to the Ministry, Deirdre's handsome friend Flynn Brennan is afflicted with a terrible disease - a disease that accelerates the aging process. I ended up liking this book more than I expected. I'm a connoisseur of post-apocalyptic and speculative fiction, so I had very high standards. While the plot isn't extremely polished, the characters and the world-building are quite charming. I found myself unable to put down this book; I wanted to find out what sort of world the dream protocol had created.

I think this author has promise, and I look forward to reading her future works! ( )

This is a good book. Set 1,000 years in the future, people live underground as there is no safe place above ground. People don’t have their own dreams they download created ones. When you turn 35 you descend down to Tír na nÓg. Deirdre is always questioning things and her friend Flynn is aging quickly. Anyone who is defective get an early descent. This book has some wacky ideas for the future and how to keep a pure society. I look forward to the next book in the series. ( )

This book was amazing and ended way too quickly! I kept swiping left hoping I actually hadn't reached the end! What a huge cliffhanger! This book reminding me of the "Wool" series by Hugh Howey. A community set far into the future has lived beneath the surface of the earth for so long nobody can remember what the surface was like but they have been told its nothing but a desolate wasteland. Our protagonist, Deirdre Callaghan, has many questions about the system they live under and why at the age of 35 citizens must "descend" to a mythical place that nobody returns from. These people are considered "ruined" and are put out of the community in order to keep room for the younger people.
The only way the people who live here survive is through the "dreams" that are manufactured by the Makers in the city. This sounds to me like some sort of virtual reality where people can escape their mundane lives by paying for dreams that are wildly realistic.
Her friend/ love interest is Flynn Brennan is afflicted with some sort of disease that makes him age must faster than normal and must keep his grey hair, wrinkles and shaved face hidden from the government otherwise they may take him and force him to descend before his time. Deidre and Flynn dream of making it to the surface and living their lives on their terms. ( )

I was asked to review this by Librarything.com

At first I was not too sure and whether the book was for me but pages on and what an intriguing tale and what a beautiful illustrated cover - this will intrigue the readers at bookstores and airports.

A true escape to another world with people selling dreams to people and those that are bad get nightmares. Readers it does feel as though you are reading it in a dream. It also has the feeling of a young adult book.

Only published in May but already readers are hungry for more and wanting the sequel.

I am certainly waiting for the next book. ( )

Incredible and engaging tale that will whisk the reader away to suspend all disbelief as Coleridge suggests. Lovely and intriguing, this story is only disappointing because the sequels are not yet written. I won't enjoy the wait, but I will endure it. I appreciate that this is a new wrinkle in dystopian literature armed with a strong female character. I will definitely recommend this to my junior high and high school students, but adults will enjoy it also. I'm so glad I received this from NetGalley! ( )
