The author uses cowboy slang throughout the entire book and continuously uses onomatopoeias. It tells the story of a young boy who falls in love with a guitar at the age of 11 who eventually paves the way for the genre, rock n roll. Eventually opening up for Elvis Presley, Buddy made a name for himself and blessed the ears of many folks along the way. That is until one stormy evening, Buddy tragically passed away in a plane crash at the age of 22. I really enjoyed this book, not only because I love music history but also because of the mood the author presents. Along with that, illustrator uses many bright, eye-catching colors and I think it does a great job, coupled with the author’s tone, of expressing Buddy’s happy and upbeat attitude. ( ) Buddy takes the reader on a journey through the life of Buddy Holly, who was a boy from West Texas who had many interests but eventually fell in love with rock ‘n’ roll. The illustrations in this book are incredible and truly provide the reader with insight as to what Buddy’s life was like from childhood to adulthood. This story exposes students to west Texas, southern country language, which expands cultural knowledge. The story ends rather abruptly, which after reading the author’s note, depicts Buddy’s life, as he passed away in a plane crash at the age of 22. This would be a great book to use in a music lesson, as there are many instruments and multiple genres presented throughout the book. Buddy is a biography of Charles Hardin Holley, better known as Buddy Holly. The author uses distinct font to tell us about Buddy. The words used by the author make the reader feel Southern and the illustrator lets you see the words. Buddy's talent emerged when he was very young but he did not become a star until his parent gave him a guitar. The use of realistic illustrations let the reader see music come to life on the pages. This book takes the reader back in time before Rock 'n' Roll was created. The made up words and terms used by the author make the book lively and let the young reader see something outside of Standard English. Music is fun and this book lets you see it and read it in a fun way. The author included an afterword that gives the reader additional information on Buddy Holly. A bibliography was also included to let the reader know the sources. Buddy Holly grew up in a home with his warm, close, and loving family. His family loved music and Buddy played a few instruments. Finally he discovered the guitar and got into rock and roll. Despite his shy personality, he rocked the scene and even opened up for Elvis Presley. Buddy and his band went on to make their first record after just one year following graduation. This book is written in a country style voice. The word choice is charming and makes readers feel that they more in touch with Buddy’s personal life. I would like to share this book during a thematic unit of music. I would share some of Buddy Holly’s music so that students can hear what they are reading about. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
