Not knowing anything about previous Spider Woman origin stories, this one worked for me. Ok, certain parts were a little odd and the culmination is kind of ridiculous, but I didn't find anything hugely objectionable. I might change my mind after reading more of the Spider Woman series, but for now, not bad. I must admit, there were only two reasons that I picked up this book: 1) it was cheap, and 2) it had a Taskmaster appearance. I was really impressed with what I ended up reading, though. The art was really nice, and the story wasn't bad either. My only complaint is how Taskmaster was handled, but that's an on-going thing and not just in relation to this one arc. For being supposedly nearly impossible to beat, it seems that he's whipped by everyone. This was no exception.

Beyond that, though, this is introducing us to Jessica Drew as a character in ways that we haven't seen before. I feel like I knew the character much more deeply than from previous readings, as we see how Jessica is working through the events of her life, as well as seeing those events through the eyes of characters with whom we're already familiar (such as Nick Fury).
This collects 5 issues, and is a quick read, but it's absolutely the best origin account for Spider-Woman that I've read. The art is equally impressive, with clean lines and a modern graphical depth that makes for an impressive comic.
If you've ever been interested in Spider-Woman, and especially if you're a fan of Bendis, I highly recommend this collection. ( )
