The big picture of the chapter book The Puppy Place: Bonita was it's important to help others, and it feels good to help others. I liked this book for multiple reasons. First since this book was realistic fiction it was important that the characters were believable. I feel that the author did a good job of describing the characters as being real. For example when the author was describing Lizzies younger brother she says "The escalator was the real reason they had brought Bean to the airport. He got very excited about moving stairs since there weren't any ekaatlors in Littleton..." It's common for young children to get excited about things like escalators so the including that information makes the book seem real. Secondly, the plot is well organized and suspenseful. The author starts the story off with Lizzie picking her aunt up from the airport and seeing she brought home an injured dog, then Lizzie and her friends decide to have a fundraiser for the dog and in the end the dog is adopted and gets her surgery. It has a clear problem and solution which keeps the reader wanting to figure out what will happen to the dog. Finally, the writing is engaging and flows well. The author includes a lot of dialogue which helps move the plot forward. An example of the dialogue is when Lizzie's friend Maria says "Plus, I think we should raise money for Sato Friends and help all the other abandoned dogs on the island." Instead of the author just narrating the idea to raise money for other dogs she inserts into a conversation which is more interesting and engaging to read. ( )
