The Echoes of the Ascended is a series that follows four different characters in stories set in the same universe but not all in the same genre. Of the book in this series that I've read so far, this was my favourite.

A noble lady has been killed and is found at the lower parts of the city. It's simply a case of bringing the murderer to justice, but these things are never simple, unfortunately.

First of all, it read like a Victorian murder mystery. If it had stated this took place in London, I would have believed it. I really liked how there seemed to be a lot of story (and detail) for the very limited number of pages in this novella. It was impressive really. I'm really looking forward to reading more of this particular part of the series!

This was a good start to a series and I look forward to seeing where this goes. It has me intrigued and invested in these characters. Worth the quick read. 4 out of 5 stars. ( )
