This erotic novel seems to follow on from the rather better 'Cosimo's Wife' of the same author, Norman Rubington, normally known by the pseudonym of Akbar del Piombo. Others followed later. They all deal with the frenetic goings on of an erotic nature within the decaying, dissolute English upper class, aided by various commoners and servants. The women are uniformly libidinous, deploying a wide range of amatory talents, and the men at least interestingly endowed but usually bordering on the priapic. The plot here, as with the other novels, tends to meander in a form of self-discovery, but if this is a short-coming, it is amply compensated by the high density of thrusting encounters. As with the other novels this one will probably appeal most to those who are intellectually inclined, but my four star award reflects its relative lack of inventiveness in its erotic fantasies. ( )
