Decent dragon shifter/alien book. However, there wasn't much relationship development. And there was a lot of telling not showing. Probably won't continue with the series. ( )

Jarek is War Master of an alien race of dragon shifters, he's over 400 years old and has given up hope of finding his mate. He agrees to bring Preor males to Earth in hopes they can find mates. His father's crimes almost lead to the destruction of the Preor people, decimating their females.

Melissa is care taker/nanny of the princess of the Ujal. While she is loved, she feels she must help atone for her brothers crimes of selling the Ujal younglings to the highest bidder.

Both of these people bear the weight of their families crimes, where Melissa has become a loved, Jarek has spent his life struggling against the hate of his people, but still rose to become War Master.

Jarek had no intention of mating but the moment he sees and hears Melissa the 'Knowing' hits and everything changes. Of course Melissa has no idea what's happening and runs, not wanting the mating but still connected to Jarek.

If the drama of the mating wasn't enough, the opposing Preor faction attack, severely injuring Jarek.

I really liked this first in series, it has a lot of interesting ideas, I'm curious about both the Ujal, mermen species as well as the Preor, dragon species. I understand there's a series about the Ujal, I wish I had read it before this one, I think it might have enhanced this story.

There were also some what? moments like, how could he have 'plenty of women to warm his bed' but the male to female ratio in Preor be 1000 to 1? During the big fight, only the night before any movement was excruciating but when Melissa was in danger his movement didn't seem very limited. There are also parts of the story I wish were fleshed out a bit more, either needing more explanation or the brevity left me feel like parts were missing. Interesting reading, hopefully future books will expand on the things missing in this one.

I love the Preor, and I think that this is a great intro into the series. You get to know Jarek and Melissa, who help carry into the next couple books. On top of that, you get the continuation from the Ujal books.

Celia Kyle writes excellent books, and I wish she would come back to this series. ( )

Jarek is book one in the Dragons of Preor series. It’s hot, sweet, passionate, and emotional.

I did notice that the Dragons of Preor appears to be a spin-off from the Ujal series, which I have not read yet, but that didn’t take away from the story. It can be read as a standalone, but we do have references to events in the Ujal series and a number of characters from that series cross over.

This series has an interesting world, concept, and how one finds their mate. I like that the dragons while in man form have wings, but also can shapeshift into a full dragon.

Their is a little conflict that arises in the Preor race and with the human women. This adds to the emotions and build-up. I liked that Jarek and Melissa don’t hop into bed right away even with the Knowing. They take the time they need to get to know each other as individuals. Especially since they both carry guilt for something that they didn’t do, but feel it’s their burden to carry. Once they do jump into bed, it’s steamy and sensual.

The story was satisfying and the romance was well developed. I had a delightful time with this story and look forward to continue the series.
