Such a cute little town. Makes me “wish” I lived there! These books are nicely paced and there isn’t a ton of information thrown at you so it’s a quick, easy read. Little cliffhangers throughout keep you coming back for more. ( )

Cute cozy mystery, though it took me a while to warm up to the pet show setting of this one. Also, once we had the body I was pretty sure whodunnit (toward the start of the book, I was pretty sure that one of two people would end up as the corpse, and the other would be the killer, and I was right) but there were other aspects of the mystery for this one, too. Some of those I guessed right, and for others I was way in left field. Enjoyable overall. ( )

Darcy is a "Wishcrafter" (a witch that is able to grant other peoples' wishes that are pure of heart) she runs the service "As You Wish" a concierge service that doubles as an investigation service. As a wishcrafter, she is unable to be photographed and her image always appears as a burst of white light, until a spell is cast upon her...

Two years running Natasha's cat Tatiana has won the competition, with the other two top competitors each having an accident and being forced to withdraw their animals from the competition.

Darcy is hired by Ivy (the owner of Fairy Tails, pet groomer) to keep an eye out for trouble at the upcoming pet show and especially on Natasha, just in case she is the cause of the trouble.

At the competition are Baz & his wife Vivienne who are having marital problems. Baz is a notorious womanizer and Vivienne has hired Glinda to get proof that Baz is having an affair... With proof of an affair Vivienne can divorce Baz with a $10,000,000 settlement, without proof her divorce is only worth $1,000,000.

While on a "snooping" break, both Darcy & Glinda find Baz & Natasha sneaking out of the storeroom after having a quickie. Still in the throes of passion Darcy & Glinda are able to film the couple having a parting kiss and grab, getting the evidence they need to aide in Vivienne's divorce.

During the judging Natasha dies of Cyanide poisoning and suspicion falls on Vivienne. As Darcy investigates whom might have had reason to murder Natasha, she goes to visit Chip, one of Natasha's on/off boyfriends. As Darcy is questioning Chip, he drinks is usual kale smoothie and he begins to turn red and pass out. He too a victim of Cyanide poisoning. Hiding in Chip's bedroom is Baz, who escapes through the window.

Baz is arrested for the murder of Chip, and after his release is run down by Vivienne's car, but the evidence points out that Vivienne was not driving and she too is being framed.

In the meantime, someone is pet-napping the animals that were in the competition, they try to take Archie (a macaw & Darcy's sometime helper) but he escapes.

There are no lack of suspects or "Red Herrings"... Most everyone disliked Natasha and as Baz had more than one girlfriend any one of them could have wanted to frame him or Vivienne.

I skipped over most of the characters' history that is repeated from book to book as I find it unnecessary and boring reading. Aside from that, the book was easy to read and had an interesting plot. ( )

Eh. Not the best of the bunch, but not bad either. Lots of ongoing secrets are finally revealed: the biggie, the one that was probably meant to elicit the biggest shock (who is the Elder) was bleeding obvious to me, but the author still wrote it with enough sincerity that it could cause a few misty eyes.

The murder mystery plotting was not bad. Not shocking but not hopelessly obvious.

What was most disappointing was the amateur copy-editing. Lots of missing words, making it obvious that edits weren't checked after they were made. Poor performance from Obsidian/Penguin, but certainly not the first time.

Still an entertaining, fantastical, mystery series when you're looking for something both light and oftentimes deep. ( )
