This guy is ridiculous. He is a little shit and I kind of want to strangle him, a bit.

Some things Mike did and said made me want to shake him. But at the same time I recognise that he is just a normal teen, and that's how it actually is. Therefore, like I said - ridiculous.

I don't have too many squabbles, but I strongly believe that Rook needs to apologise. I don't believe a relationship with any dark history would last long. If only because the bitterness will well up during an argument and the old wounds shall open again with new hurt. Unless you actually talk about it.

Overall, this is a good story and rather realistic IMO.

There’s raw humor that sometimes makes you laugh and sometimes makes roll your eyes sometimes. You become invested in Mike’s life. You get angry, happy, and frustrated along with him, but in the end, you gladly follow his journey and want to spend more time with him.

Things I Liked:
Mike Tate is not a shining beacon of positivity or the pinnacle of student achievement. He’s a slacker who loved getting high and playing in his crappy band with his best friends. He’s unsure of himself in one of the most realistically teenage ways I’ve ever read about. He’s coming to terms with his sexuality and navigating other people’s expectations along with his own life changes. He was so human, that it was incredibly easy to become invested in his story.

This book has so much raw and honest humor. It might be one of the most candid books I’ve ever read. It’s so unflinchingly teenage-y; filled with high school drama, parties, cursing, and questioning. There’s an assertiveness to the humor that makes it direct without ever being callous.

I really loved the writing in this too. Like the humor, this story is just so open and honest. There’s this serendipitous and go-with-the-flow feeling that breezes through the story, while also tackling coming out and coming to terms with who you think you are/should be.

This has such a great friend #squad. Throughout the entire story, we constantly see moments of pure friendship. They rag on each other, they support each other, they talk to each other. There’s just this fantastic little group of genuine friendship and they all have to come to terms with how their world is changing, and what that means for them now.

Things I Didn’t Like:
Personal preference, I like short chapters, but this book did have some LONG chapters. They might now have even been that long, but for me 15 pages is pushing it. Even though there were breaks within the chapters, I found myself constantly putting the book down for the first half because it was a lot at one time.

While I do love the friend group in the story, I think the side characters are underdeveloped. This is Mike’s story, so of course the focus is on him, but I feel like we didn’t really get to know any of his friends or classmates that well.

This is a candidly humorous book about self-discovery and coming to terms with who you are. I really loved the story and seeing Mike’s journey. It was so easy to connect with Mike’s mellow nature. This is a solid summer read and you're guaranteed to breeze through it. ( )

It has been a while since I could find a novel that made me want to go back to reading and ignore other work to be done. Whatever was the book that forced me to go back to my habit and love of reading fiction.

Although the story started with Mike being a screw-up kid, however, less of that mess was seen as Mike faced his dilemma. And it was an interesting dilemma that kept me wanting to continue reading, as I was curious what would happen next. Some of the characters were not developed well and I was wondering why they were included in the story, but still, they did not distract the author on focusing on Mike and his issue.

I loved this book and am looking forward to the author's next writing. ( )
