At around 200 pages, [b:Loving Vin|26253286|Loving Vin (Barretti Security Series, #1)|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442426962s/26253286.jpg|46250106] was okay, but knowing [b:Redeeming Rafe|26147722|Redeeming Rafe (Barretti Security Series, #2)|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1441310918s/26147722.jpg|46102629] was only around 150, (as were so many of her other books I browsed) I wasn't sure I wanted to bother starting a series that consisted of such short reads. But I think shorter reads was just what my book slump needed and I lucked out big time when I discovered how much goodness Sloane Kennedy can pack in such a small package. Because let me tell you, I do not remember the last time I encountered two characters who had such explosive chemistry. I got tingles in oh, so many nice places every time Vin's POV rolled around. I love a good age-difference story and I'm a sucker for a super-protective Alpha protecting a traumatized h (especially if the h can come off as being fragile but strong at the same time, no doormats, please). I also love those heroes who melt for babies, or, in this case, abused animals. The description of the first time Vin saw a pig playing in his backyard made me giggle. And the cockatoo who kept calling him "Asshole?" Priceless. There is a tiny bit of intrigue, about as much as you can get in such a short book, but what made it work was the fact that the writer was not trying to get a full John Grisham novel's worth of action into her book. The story is about the characters, not so much the conflict going on in the background. All in all, giving me a free book had the seller's desired outcome. After I finished [b:Loving Vin|26253286|Loving Vin (Barretti Security Series, #1)|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442426962s/26253286.jpg|46250106] I went on to read [b:Redeeming Rafe|26147722|Redeeming Rafe (Barretti Security Series, #2)|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1441310918s/26147722.jpg|46102629], and I just finished [b:Finding Trust|25978624|Finding Trust (Finding Series, #2)|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1439249002s/25978624.jpg|45888569]. Next up for me is [b:Letting Go|25282746|Letting Go|Sloane Kennedy|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1428104495s/25282746.jpg|44743831].
