Mostly gets 4 stars for the funny rewritten Christmas songs. ( )

This is such a fun book to read aloud. There is so much humor to be found for seasoned readers (i.e. adults) of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and simply a great story for children. The word play and puns are incredibly clever as is the overall concept of this delightful book.

Three well-meaning knights — Silent, Polite and Brave — are just doing their job (protecting the king from invaders) but said invader (Santa Claus) is trying to deliver gifts to the castle. What ensues is silly antics as Santa attempts various ways of entering a place that has no chimney while the knights do everything they can to stop him.

The illustrations are bold and bright adding a wonderful contemporary feel to the book. Visit illustrator Scott Magoon’s website for a behind-the-scenes look at how he created these fun images.

The Knights Before Christmas is a fantastic gift idea for children this Christmas and sure to be a story you’ll look forward to reading every year. Highly recommend.

Note: I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

We received a copy in exchanged for an honest review. This does not influence our review in any shape or form.

I've been trying to get the kids ready for the holidays so I've been searching for books to bring in the Holiday spirit, when I had the opportunity to review The Knights Before Christmas , I immediately wanted to review it.

It was extremely colorful as you could see in the images up above in the sneak peek portion of this post. They were very vibrant and eye catching. The kids loved how colorful the pages were. They also enjoyed the story, they thought the Knights were a bit silly and had a good laugh.

I read the story on my own and really enjoyed it. I found myself laughing at the silly things the Knights were doing. I was also glad that the kids seemed to enjoy the story as well. It's a cute Christmas story and I would recommend it. ( )

You all know the poem “Twas The Night Before Christmas. I remember it from a very young age. My brothers and sisters and I used to like to make up our own words for the rhyming. That’s what Joan Holub has done.

Brave Knight, Polite Knight, and Silent Knight, three valiant young lads, must man the battlements, keeping the mysterious invader and his eight fierce dragons from entering the castle.

What a delightful story. The author got very creative with her telling. And she also had a fun little twist on the spirit of giving.

The book is large but not very thick. Easy for young readers to hold or for parents to read out loud to their kids.

The pages are thick and glossy with so many colorful, delightful scenes. And there’s plenty of silly comments to make you and your little ones giggle.

“Jingle bells.

Invader smells.

Jingle all the waaay…”

A new book to add to your holiday tradition, reading it over and over.. ( )

I saw The Knights Before Christmas by Joan Holub and I thought, what better way to kick off the upcoming holiday season than with a classic, of sorts.

Written with humor and wit, what child wouldn’t delight in feeling they are a hero by saving the castle from the invaders, even if it is Santa.

There will be “reindeer” and Santa and gifts galore.

They will cower with fear, yet man the walls.

The book is large and thin, making it easy for the small hands in the household to hold onto. My biggest concern is the pages in those grasping little hands, how well will they hold up.

The illustrations describe the action, word by word, in vivid color.

A fun book to add to a child’s reading list, but I was left a bit confused at the ending. Santa bad? And a Trojan Horse? How would a 5 – 8 year old child respond to it?

I have not reviewed many children’s books, but these are my thoughts. Am I being too harsh? Your thoughts may be quite different, so be sure and check it out for yourself.

I received a copy of The Knights Before Christmas by Joan Holub in return for an honest review. ( )
