This was a horror novel, geared towards a young adult audience. There is a lot of violence in the novel, with very graphic descriptions. A teen boy with a troubled past joins a group of misfits fighting against hell on earth. Using The Engine, they are able to gain anything they want for 666 hours, after which their souls are taken to hell forever.

This seemed like a very unique concept to me, and the description of the Engine was great. I loved the scene when the lawyers were looking over Marlow's contract, and the way they talked of reprogramming the machine.

This is the first book in a proposed trilogy. There is a cliffhanger ending, that sets you up for the next installment. There is no sex in the book, but very graphic violence. This book seems suitable for older teens and up.

Alexander Gordan Smith created an amazing story with fascinated characters. This book is a whole horror/fast-pace gripping combo that will make you turn the next page before you even realized it. The writing, or rather, the graphic description is mind-blowing awesome! Perfect read for those late nights. ( )
