This fractured fairytale is similar to Chicken Little, but has an unusual twist. The animals begin to dance when they think the sky is falling. The fox tries to outsmart the animals but another surprise at the end of the story keeps him from getting a chicken dinner. This book would be great to use during a fairy tale unit and to compare and contrast to the original story. ( )

This is a great fractured fairy tale. It's funny with wonderful illustrations by Mark Teague. ( )

The main character in the book, Chicken Little, and her chicken friends are well developed as the story moves forward. The reader is led to believe that Chicken Little is frenzied, easily frightened, and scared of the world around him. However, the plot unfolds as we find that Fox is using trickery to fool the chickens into entering his den to be eaten. It turns out that it's Chicken Little who has a scheme at work as she has used her 'sky is falling' line to fool Fox himself. Although the setting is not well defined through text, the bright and varied illustrations help children identify a farm is where this book takes place.

This would be a good book for primary grades. ( )
