Alex and Ren and Luke find themselves in the Valley of Kings in their search for Death Walkers ( awaken by Alex's mum's reading of the Lost Spells - to bring Alex back from the dead in Book 1) Egypt is in chaos due to the dead rising and weird supernatural events and the trio think they have seen it all until they get to the Valley of the Kings (VOTK) where the heat is unbearable and tourists are being burnt (literally not sun burnt) when they stay too long. Alex believes his mother is close at hand but is incorrect. Then there are the campfire visitors - Pai, the mummifies cat from Book 2 and King Tut ( yes Tut-Ankh- Amun himself) who is searching for his lost heart and learns to appreciate the meaning of the word "Duuuuddde" from Luke.
Interesting as I did not see SPOILER ALERT : Luke's betrayal of Ren & Alex's whereabouts to The Order in return for payment for sporting gear etc. The book ends on a cliff hanger with Ren & Alex finding themselves transported to a German museum.
Highly recommended for the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter fan ( )
