Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

Everyone in Lake Eden, Minnesota, may have had their doubts, but at long last, Hannah Swensen is getting married! Hannah is thrilled to be marrying Ross Barton, her college crush. And her excitement only grows when she learns he'll be able to join her on her trip to New York City for the Food Channel's dessert chef contest. They get a taste of the Big Apple before Hannah wins the Hometown Challenge and the producers bring all the contestants to Lake Eden to tape the remainder of the show. It's nerve-wracking enough being judged by Alain Duquesne, a celebrity chef with a nasty reputation. But it's even more chilling to find him stabbed to death in the Lake Eden Inn's walk-in cooler-before he's even had a chance to taste Hannah's Butterscotch Sugar Cookies! Now Hannah has not only lost her advantage, she'll have to solve a mystery with more layers than a five-tiered wedding cake.

I did enjoy this book. I did not predict the end or the killer. Still very formulaic but i loved coming back to this world. It is a fast pace read and like a good pair of jeans. ( )

Hannah and her sister Michelle have been invited to a baking competition in New York City. Also, Hannah’s wedding to Ross is coming up, tongues are wagging in Lake Eden, and it’s causing quite a bit of tension with former boyfriends Mike and Norman. Hannah solves this by throwing a big wedding and asking them to be Ross’s groomsmen. Ouch.

This was one of those murder mysteries where the murder doesn’t take place until halfway through the novel, which ordinarily is a trope I don’t particularly care for, however since I was rather enjoying the other stuff going on in the novel (mainly the baking competition, somewhat Hannah’s man troubles), I thought it worked here. The baking competition was lots of fun and I especially enjoyed the recipes this time around.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

I really can't believe that Fluke married off Hannah and to the wrong man. I wanted Hannah to be with Norman, a guy who loved her enough to build her a house she helped to design. My question is will it last, is Ross broke? So some signs of his upgrading to luxury whenever possible. I'll read the next book just to see what happens now that they are married.

Hannah Swenson, owner of the Cookie Jar bakery, is getting married. Buut first, Hannah has to deal with the Food Cannel's Dessert Chef Contest. The date had been moved so that it was happening right during the days before her wedding. At least her Mom and sisters were keeping the wedding planning on schedule. Hannah and her youngest sister headed off to the coast for the first challenge of the contest. As luck would have it, her fiancé was able to come along and film the contest for the local KCOW tv channel. If Hannah won the first contest, the network would move the contest to her hometown. The contest judges were an interesting group. The head judge was an ornery self-absorbed older man whom Hannah's Aunt Nancy remembered from high school. So, Hannah got the scoop on what types of desserts she needed to create for the contest. Just when things were going well, one of the judges was found murdered. Who was responsible? And how was Hannah going to solve the murder, so that her wedding would not be affected?

This was a typical cozy mystery. It was light and somewhat funny. I enjoy the characters, but they are all such stereotypical cozy characters. Overbearing well-to-do mother, overly understanding boyfriends, nosy relatives, a grudge bearing killer, womanizing celebrities, a very nosy buttinsky main character, and a cat; all living in small town midwest Minnesota.
