...So is it a good story? Some would say it is. It is well written at some levels. Did I like it? Not one bit to be honest. Olde Heuvelt is right in that letting go is an important part of ending a relationship and moving on. The way Toby goes about it though, is problematic in so many ways that I didn't really enjoy reading it. Olde Heuvelt's novels are generally more to my liking.

2015-05-16/100%: Not bad but but should have been much shorter. I passed at least two places where I thought it was over and then realized it wasn't. The idea of literally turning his world upside down after the break up was interesting. ( )

I liked the way this story intertwined a major worldwide disaster with a personal tragedy. The small scale of the narration keeps things personal, while illuminating just enough of what's going on in the world.

I really disliked the narrator. He's incredibly selfish and self-centered; in his viewpoint he's the only one in the world whose well-being and feelings matter. And he's the sort of guy that figures because he "loves" his girlfriend, he's entitled to have her stay with him for ever and ever, regardless of what she wants.

I'm... not actually sure if the narrator is intended to be so flawed, or if his behaviour is supposed to be read as acceptable. ( )
