Tom Angleberger adapts Return of the Jedi in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side! This book concludes the YA adaptations of the original trilogy that released in advance of The Force Awakens. While Alexandra Bracken's A New Hope adaptation captured the general optimism of that film, and Adam Gidwitz's Empire Strikes Back adaptation tried a more experimental approach (to mixed results), Angleberger adopts a serious tone befitting the conclusion to the trilogy. As a fan of Star Wars trivia, he includes the occasional footnote of fun detail, but his exposition captures the more somber elements of the story while still feeling exciting as he retells the events of a film from 1983.
Perhaps Angleberger's greatest achievement is to include references to people and events in the prequels, such as Padmé Amidala or Anakin's fall, in the more introspective scenes with Darth Vader, thereby foreshadowing the conflict that Luke feels in him and which leads to his return to the light. Like the other books in this series, Angleberger uses concept sketches and paintings from Ralph McQuarrie between chapters, though his serious tone confounds the more lighthearted (and, in the Empire adaptation, jokey) feel of the other books. As the final book in this series—unless Disney adapts the prequel or sequel trilogy in this format—Angleberger strikes the right tone and gravitas for the conclusion to the original trilogy. This is a great read both for younger readers and adults looking to reconnect with the characters. ( )

This book is a retelling of George Lucas's Return of The Jedi. It uses the information of all the prequels and tries to fill major plot holes. The plot goes Luke and his comrades try to save their friend Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. They free him and Luke's friends go to the rebel fleet and prepare to attack the second Death Star. Meanwhile Luke goes to Daggobah to ask Yoda if Darth Vader really is his father. Yoda tells him yes and Luke and the rebels attack the second Death Star. They succeed in destroying the Death Star and kill the Emperor as well as Darth Vader.

I love the movie already and I am glad that someone has made a book about it. It also tells some amazing little facts about random Star Wars things such as what the royal guards do in their spare time. It has a charming sense of humor that is very refreshing. It fills in plot holes that were created with the introduction of the prequels. This makes it a little bit rewarding for people who want to know all about the Star Wars Universe and care about it's worth. This a book that I would recommend to any true Star Wars fan. All around probably the best Star Wars book I have read. ( )

It's a faithful re-telling of movie 3 6, but supposedly for the younger people. He adds his own sly humor and some insight into the interior thoughts of some characters. ( )
