Little Monkey is nervous about attending kindergarten for the first time. He has so many questions and worries. His parents and brother try to assure him all will go well.

You can feel and see the anxiety of Monkey as he over thinks his first day of school. The illustrations are adorable. I had hoped as I looked up the author there was another book about Monkey. I could see another book on dealing with his mom having a new baby and him becoming a big brother since his mom is visibly pregnant and luckily there is a book along with others in the series.

At first reading, this picture book the font is hard to read and hard to get used to. The font looks like a kids handwriting in red crayon. While I did not like the font very much I think it did add to Monkey’s anxiety.

Very cute characters and the series looks just as adorable. I love the face we can continue to follow Monkey growing up. ( )

This book illustrates all the steps before monkey is "ready for Kindergarten" he is nervous and doesn't feel ready yet but with the help of his parents, his older brother, and his friends he finally feels okay and he ends up fitting right in.

Illustrated with children's drawings that could easily be authentic (as in I would believe a child drew this in the nicest, most complimentary way) the titular Monkey is worried about starting kindergarten. As the days count down, Monkey's family helps him prepare for his first day of real school and everything works out perfectly. I think this a wonderful book for kids ages three to five to read because it prepares them for kindergarten and shows them it's okay to be nervous. ( )

Although his parents and older brother are encouraging, young Monkey isn't sure that he is ready for Kindergarten. Beset by numerous fears - what if his teacher doesn't like him?, what if he gets on the wrong bus? - it takes quite a few positive activities, from discussing reading time at school to meeting some of his prospective classmates, to convince him to give it a chance...

From Marc Brown, the creator of the popular Arthur picture-book series about a little aardvark, which has also been turned into a television show, comes this first title in a new series about Monkey, a youngster who approaches new experiences with a little bit of trepidation. Fortunately for him, he also has a loving family that is ready to help him adjust. Recommended to anyone looking for stories about the first day of Kindergarten, and how young children might overcome their fear of that experience. ( )

Marc Brown, the author of beloved children's book Arthur; has done it again. He has created another precious book about a little monkey who is not quite ready for kindergarten. Monkey, Not Ready for Kindergarten is such a great read. The story follows little Monkey along, as his family tries to help prepare him for his first day of Kindergarten. Little Monkey has lots of anxiety about starting kindergarten and just doesn't feel ready. Towards the end of this charming book you see Monkey warming to the idea of going off to kindergarten. I would highly recommend this book to any little "Monkey" heading of to school for the first time. This book and it's reassuring message is sure to ease little ones fear and anxiety over the unknown of entering kindergarten. I love the illustrations; as each picture is inviting and childlike. With hand written text and colored pencil drawings I was immediately drawn into the story and eager to follow Monkey through his journey to kindergarten.
This book can be used in the classroom in so many different ways. I like this book because not only can it serve academic purposes related to Common Core Standards (RL.K.1, & RL.K3) but it can also be used for social and emotional skill building. I love how much background information you can build for students using this particular book. I think this book is a must have for Kindergarten Teachers and anyone that has a little one headed to Kindergarten for the first time.
