A Poem in Your Pocket is a book written by Margaret McNamara and entails the story of children dealing with anxiety. Each poem allows the students to get through their daily life. Ms. Tiffany equips her students with different ways of positively expressing themselves. I would recommended this book to teachers and students for various reasons. It helps to teach students moral lessons and also helps to keep students grounded. ( )

This a sweet book about Elinor trying to find her thoughts to write a poem. She tries to be perfect and makes the best grades. I can relate because I feel the same way when I begin to write. I love the details in the illustrations. I especially liked one page where the spotlight is on Elinor and the class is looking at her. They are expecting her to have the perfect poem because she is always perfect, but this time her page is blank. ( )

Ellinor is a perfectionist, and like many others, it often gets in her way. As her class prepares for a special visit from a well-known poet, she decided to write a poem for every pocket of her pants. ( )

Ellinor is a character all of us have been able to relate to at least once in our lives. When her class starts learning poetry every time she is assigned to write a poem she has writers block! Every day that passes is another day Ellinor couldn't find the words for her poems, She thought everything she wrote was terrible Ella Swan, the famous poet , tells Ellinor to tell her the poems in her head and that she has been creating poetry all along and any poetry is good poetry. I love the message to persevere and practice. ( )

This was not what I expected when I searched for poetry books in the catalog, but instead of a book filled with poetry, it told the story of Elinor as she learned all the different rules of poetry and the different styles. throughout the story, Elinor was so worried about getting her poem written that she could never even have anything written down. Finally, when she is supposed to read her poem to the class and the poet who has come to visit, Elinor still has no poem written and she begrudgingly goes on the stage and the poet and asks her about her poem and she replies that she doesn't have one and the poet asks her what she's been trying to write and Elinor speaks from the heart and makes a beautiful poem and realizes that poetry can be so many things and that you really just have to free your mind to write poetry.
