Full colour throughout, fictional story from the Manhattan project starring Oppenheimer, Einstein, Feynman, Fermi, Daghlian, Von Braun, Groves, Roosevelt, Truman, Gagarin, Laika, Gröttrup, Ustinov, JFK, Brezhnev, Guevara, and Castro. A little far-fetched: murders, split personalities, alien races, multi-dimensions; but nonetheless a fun, quick read that also introduces the names of the real people involved in the Manhattan Project. I loved the beginning chapter quotes from "Clavis Aurea - The Recorded Feynman", a fake book within the story. The book is hilarious because the personalities of each character were exaggeratedly fake (indeed, Einstein comes across as being stupid, and Feynman appears as his side-kick; Oppenheimer is evil; Truman is the mad leader of a secret society "The Illuminatorium"; Gagarin obsessed with finding his dog; etc). Various missions throughout the story cause conflict in each character's goals: Project Ares, Project Gaia, Project Vulcan, Project Charon, An entertaining, if pointless story. It's the fifth volume of the world's greatest secret science history, The Manhattan Projects. "The Cold War" reveals the dark days of the 'real ' Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of an American President, and the end of the Manhattan Projects-Star City alliance.
