Why 4 stars? Because I'm a little (A LOT) sceptical of I've-seen-the-error-of-my-ways-and-now-repent politicians.

Otherwise? THIS is absolutely wonderful

Lovely portrayal of people and relationships (people people). Emotional roller-coasters. Growing up. Believable!
Let's not forget the badass Grandma. And Meg, and James, and twins too for a good measure.

This is lovely. Lovely is lovely. I liked it so much I've read the acknowledgements (dear me, the whole thing).

Complex. Complex! COMPLEX.
I absolutely love human complexities. I swoon for complex layered character portrayal. Give me a twisty road to follow!

Why are you still here?
Go pick it up to read!

FINAL VERDICT: READ IT!!! ( )

“It's amazing how much one person can change the world, even if they don't know they're doing it.”

This was all around just a fluffy, enjoyable summer read. I thought Kate was a good MC, who obviously has to go through a lot of changes and try and navigate not only a bit of a spotlight, but meeting her new family as well. I loved her younger brother Gabe so much - he was such an adorable little sweetheart. I’m also really happy that Meg wasn’t turned into an evil stepmom character and was such a nice and accepting person, who Kate could really lean on. One of my favorite parts of the story was the deliciously flirty romance between Kate and Andy. They had such good banter, and were just really adorable. But I did think that Kate’s dad Mark kinda sucked and has plenty of room for improvement. The Wrong Side of Right is a perfect beach book to relax with on a summer day! ( )

Kate is a teenager who has grown up knowing nothing about her father. After her mother dies her father’s identity is unexpectedly revealed. He’s a senator, with two kids and a wife he’s been married to for longer than Kate’s been alive. And he’s running for president.

Trying to get to know her new family in the midst of a presidential campaign and its accompanying pressures isn’t easy. As the campaign progresses, Kate has to decide how much is she prepared to pushed around and scripted by her father’s staff, and what she will do when she doesn’t agree with her father’s politics.

Earlier on in The Wrong Side of Right I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep reading. There were a few odd details that jumped out at me as being a bit unrealistic, and I have less patience for average YA than I once did. And then I ended up finishing it in an afternoon. The story satisfactorily addresses my initial quibbles, and finds the right balance between lighthearted and heartwarming. ( )

Finding out you're the secret love child of the Republican nominee for president isn't anyone's plan for the summer before senior year, but that's what happens to Kate. She's unsure of where she fits into this picture-perfect Cooper family but she's willing to try, even though it means a summer on the campaign trail. Kate bonding with her younger siblings were some of my favorite parts.
I really appreciated that Meg wasn't an evil step-mother stereotype. She obviously wasn't pleased that her husband had an affair or a child no one knew about, but she was willing to take Kate on her own terms and not blame her for the situation.
There's a bit of romance, but the main focus is Kate finding a new home after losing her mother. ( )
