I liked this one better than the last one. There was no deus ex machine stuff like in the last one with the suddenly appearing tunnels. This one was pretty straight forward. The heroine was a kick ass FBI agent this time instead of a soft girly girl like her heroines in this series tend to be. The hero kept pushing her away even though he was into her. It seemed realistic and gave the story an interesting tension. Not overwhelmed with sex as some of this series was. All in all a pretty solid effort and fun for fans. (

What I liked about this book is that although there was a deception, it was known from the start. Darkness isn't my favorite of this series, but it's a solid entry for anyone who enjoys the New Species series. I admit when I first read this series I didn't care for it. I'm glad I gave it a second chance. It doesn't break any new ground, but it's entertaining. (

Darkness was betrayed by a woman that led to his three brothers deaths, he refuses to let himself care for anyone. Katrina is sent by her boss to spy. Her cover is almost immediately broken and his interrogation switches to seduction. He doesn't want to be touched and he requires her wrists to be bound when they have sex so she doesn't touch him. Darkness runs hot in bed and cold outside of it. Katrina tries to make things work until it becomes obvious how futile it is. The ending is expected but it's a frustrating, annoying read at times.

My review:

This is the species book that I have enjoyed the most. Darkness' struggle with control as well as his fear of commitment was portrayed very well.

Synopsis:

Kat’s boss wants dirt on the NSO. She is sent to Homeland undercover but everything goes wrong as soon as she enters the front gates. She is arrested by a big, powerful, sexy New Species but she is not frightened. He turns her on and things heat up fast between them. Now, she just hopes he doesn’t break her heart.

Darkness admires Kat’s courage but he cannot trust anything she says. He hasn’t been with a female for years because he knows he is too damaged. He is not mate material, despite his desire to possess her in every way. Darkness fears losing control—the one thing that defines his life. He doesn’t think he can tear down the protective walls he’s built, even for her.
