Anyone who regularly reads my reviews knows I'm obsessed with quilting, even though I'm not, you know, an actual quilter or even much of a sewer. Still, I have to get my hands on every single quilting book out there. I enjoyed this one. It includes a section on how to quilt, and the actual instructions for a variety of projects. Like I said, I'm not a quilter, but the instructions to me looked easy enough that even I could follow them & really makes me want to try a quilt. I love the fact that all of the quilts use wool, a fiber I love and a fiber often not used in a world of cotton and cotton blend fabrics. Just thinking about how cozy a quilt would be made with wool makes me want to dig out my sewing machine. There's also a great little section on the history of Pendleton wool, which I found really interesting. What a lovely book! For anyone who would like to fill their home with unique and colourful pieces of works of art this is for you. It covers topics from where to begin if you are not a sewer, to making pieces that use technics that take some thinking about. If you crave decor that is not found anywhere else, get this book. Very highly recommended. This digital copy was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest, unbiased review. The author is working in partnership with Pendleton Mills and this craft book shows us many items that can be made using Pendleton wool fabrics. There is an instructional portion included, describing techniques for working with the fabric, cutting, sewing, etc. The items range from home decorating, to blankets, pillows and accessories. My thanks to the author and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. From everyday scarves and blankets to a decorative plant hanger and a laptop sleeve, “Hand Stitched Home” by Susan Beal shows you how to make these items and more using Pendleton Wool fabrics. After a brief history on Pendleton Wool, Susan gets right into the projects starting with the tools, materials you will need to complete the projects. She also goes over the different techniques used so you are well prepared for any project you choose to work on. Each project is labeled with 1, 2, 3, or 4 sheep so you will know the complexity of the project. Color pictures and diagrams to keep you on track with any project you will be working on. Pattern pieces are included in the Appendices, along with how to care for your wool and a Pendleton timeline from 1860 to today. With 27 projects to choose from, it will be easy to find one to make a family heirloom of your own. I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"These patterns are for making home goods and accessories that are like no others. Author Susan Beal, working in partnership with Pendleton Mills, presents a collection of modern heirloom projects to sew and enjoy for generations. From the sweet, simple primer on techniques (working with wool fabrics, hand-stitching, machine sewing, and quilting) to each individual project's detailed instructions (with tips on cutting, pressing, top-stitching, hand-tying, and more) Susan's passion for sewing shines through. Each project is rated from 1 sheep to 3 sheep, according to difficulty, and there are helpful box-feature guides throughout--helpful advice for everything from substituting fabrics to matching plaids to fabric care. On every page, readers will discover just how gratifying sewing can be"-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
