I like Harley Quinn but, this was just too much of a good thing. I like her a lot as a side character but, not as the main character, I found her to be a bit annoying and grating as the main character (at least in this run). Something that bothered me with this book is the fact that there are multiple artists that work on it and it has numerous art styles throughout. This book contains issues #0-8, this seems to mostly be a bunch of short stories and there isn't an overarching story throughout. In the middle there were a two or three issues that were the same story. I can see where others really like this series but, it just isn't for me. ( )

A review from Comic Book Resources on the back cover says "It's silly, it's funny, it's irreverent" and I agree will all three assessments. Many times the 4th wall is broken, which leads to all sort of interesting commentary and redirection.

Even though Harley is clearly a villain, the caring side of her comes out many times in this book (sometimes manifesting itself in complete chaos and misunderstanding).

The art melds well with the story telling. ( )

This is the first of any of the New 52 I have read. My previous information about Harley Quinn is from the cartoon Batman, The Animated Series. This story arc gives Harley her own voice and not just an extension of The Joker. It starts with her making a new start in Coney Island as the result of inheriting a building from one of her clients in her secret identity. For some reason someone has put a bounty on her head and she is constantly killing people trying to collect. Most of the issues have her dealing with this at some point although there is some overlap of her personal life with her mayhem life. I liked it and I think I would read the next collection of stuff when it comes out.

OK, this book was a TON of fun. I am not an avid comic book reader, and I have always been a Marvel girl, so this is actually my first foray into DC comics. I repeat-I have never read a DC comic before.

Try not to be too surprised

The story-A former client gives Harley an apartment building in Coney Island. She moves in with her taxidermy beaver, making friends with the misfits who live in the building, hanging out with Poison Ivy, and teaming up with a geriatric cyborg crimefighter. Oh, and she also has to figure out who put a hit on her, while balancing being a roller derby girl, and going back into psychiatry. And, no, I did not make any of that up.

It can daze a person.

And I LOVED it! Seriously, this book was so fun, manic, dark, funny, and a blast to read. I loved the concept of having Harley Quinn go through different artistic interpretations (and some sexist scenarios) before entering the true story, as her character has gone through a bunch of crap and gets walked on a lot. This story has her taking charge in a truly unique way. I recommend this book for new fans to DC, old fans of Harley Quinn, and anyone who loves a story with a kick-ass heroine, a little bit of manic, and a really, really fun story.
