The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering. It is a comprehensive self-help guide for working through the toxic legacy of the past and for achieving a rich and fulfilling life.… (altro)

I've read a ton of books on social anxiety, and Pete Walker is the first person who has ever been able to explain what was actually going on with me in a way that makes sense and is useful toward my recovery. Also, I found myself slowing down as I approached the end of this book because it felt like I was losing a daily friend and support system. But at least I know where to turn when I need it. ( )

Powerful finale for a year of satisfying reading. I'll be listening to this one again and may purchase a hardcopy for underlining.

Walker explains the responses to childhood trauma (fight, flight, freeze, faun) with clarity along with practical wisdom to participate in personal healing from complex PTSD. Accessible and helpful. I found my own experience described as well as striking profiles of people I know (and/or by whom I have been wounded).

A worthy addition to any biblio-therapy collection and excellent companion for a journaling practice. Highly recommend. ( )

Uncomfortably and incredibly eye opening, which means it is essential for you to read. ( )

A few 5 stars insights in here that have helped me but it's structured in a meandering style that becomes less and less focussed as it continues. Definitely a keeper for me but felt like it lacked editorial oversight. ( )

In the journey from traumatic childhood to fully realized adult, this book is a travelers guide with complete routes and lots of details to experience along the way. It is so worthwhile to have a guide. My copy is tattered and smudged with notes. ( )
