From the acclaimed writer of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES comes an original graphic novel starring two of DC Comics' brightest stars: Black Canary and Zatanna! A year ago, Black Canary infiltrated a gang of female criminals set to pull a dangerous heist at a Las Vegas casino. Its leader was skilled in hand-to-hand combat and with more than a passing interest in the occult, specifically black magic, one nasty customer. Rather than be taken by Canary or the law, she went to her death, vowing she would get revenge on Canary and her own former gang members. This was a fun read. Girls that Canary helped get out of a robbery a year ago start turning up as suicides. The main suspect died over a year ago during the robbery so Canary goes to Zatanna for help since magic was involved the original case. Canary and Zatanna have a fun friendship. The story periodically flashes back to Zatanna and Canary meeting for the first time and Zatanna joining the Justice League. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more. ( )

Zatanna is helping Black Canary deal with a bloodspell she agreed to while she was undercover working a case. Intermixed throughout the story line is when they first met and when Zatanna first joined the Justice League. I enjoyed the story and characters and hopefully there will be more of these. What I didn't like was I first thought this would be a long story but almost a third of the book was either sketch art for the book or the dialogue reprinted without the art panels.
