Sapete che c’è? Penso di aver fatto la pace con Philo Vance. Nei primi quattro romanzi della serie la mia opinione ha oscillato tra che palle e va be’, niente di che, mentre La dea della vendetta mi è piaciuto molto e mi sono divertita un sacco a leggerlo.
Poi sarà che l’ho letto in un momento in cui ero stanchissima e faticavo anche solo a tenere gli occhi aperti, ma questa volta non ho capito nulla fino alla fine e quindi mi sono divertita di più a seguire le indagine di Vance.
Infine, ho apprezzato molto il fatto che il delitto si intrecciasse alla mitologia egizia, ha reso la storia molto suggestiva. ( )
L'edizione è quella Mondadori dei Classici del Giallo 2007, ma è un'edizione speciale, non in vendita, regalata a chi comprava una camicia di una certa marca: non faccio pubblicità, dato che l'iniziativa è vecchia e camicia (e libro annesso) erano un invenduto a prezzo di saldi. Ma un 6 giugno del 2009, mentre stavo sacrificando qualche ora allo shopping, attività che non mi esalta, una cosa del genere mi ha messo allegria

Of all the criminal cases in which Philo Vance participated as an unofficial investigator, the most sinister, the most bizarre, the seemingly most incomprehensible, and certainly the most terrifying, was the one that followed the famous Greene murders.
Philo Vance was drawn into the Scarab murder case by sheer coincidence, although there is little doubt that John F.-X. Markham—New York's District Attorney—would sooner or later have enlisted his services.
