This book is an inside look at gang life in one of the world's most dangerous gangs. Originating in Los Angeles but now spread all over the world La Mara Salvatrucha members are involved in a plethora of illegal activities and start in the gang at an extremely young age. The novel is told in the first person view from a man who was not only in the gang, but was part of one of the founding families of the gang. It is written completely in spanish but it is simple spanish that students taking spanish in high school can understand.This book offers an extremely special view of the lives of MS-13 members and what they are forced to do. The author holds nothing back and talks not only about himself but about all of his family and friends. One story that especially stayed with me was how the author's brother Pedro and his mother were walking on the street and members of a rival gang shot the mother right in front of then 6 year old Pedro.
