Not much could drag Jim Booker out of a peaceful, if lonely, retirement and back to late nights, crime scenes, and chases. Jim Booker is done with detective work and would just like to enjoy a cup of coffee on a sunny day. But when an old friend shows up with a case about an old flame, Booker can't say no.What starts as a missing persons case soon delivers more than he bargained for, and when Booker's own past offers clues, it's clear that no one else can solve this mystery. But there's a catch: Booker was given six months to live eight months ago.J.R. Rain shows us that when it seems there's nothing left to live for, there's also nothing left to lose. His characters will take a chance on danger, doubt, even an unlikely romance -- as long as they get a cup of coffee first.… (altro)

What's most remarkable about this quick-read is not the mystery behind the murders, but the mystery behind love, behind caring deeply for another person, fully and unconditionally. The way the author puts the reader inside the mind of a dying man I found very engaging. And of course, since the main character is running quite literally out of time, the suspense is gripping. I really enjoyed this. ( )

I found this short mystery shockingly good. Saw other reviews that found it depressing. Despite the fact that the main character is definitely dying, I found the book to be extremely uplifting because of the dignity with which the character was being allowed to die on his own terms, plus the pure love of the character Numi. The mystery was decent, but it was the main character's internal dialogue that made this book for me. Very well written. ( )

Good story, but a bit on the depressing side. ( )

the set up for the story was pretty general. Dying detective, self-hating, blamed for his brother's death, best friend stole "the girl", girl ends up dead. Of course he has to find the killer before his last breath. Oh don't forget one more romp in the sheets thrown in just for good measure. I felt like this story was like the chocolate chip cookie recipe you find on the back of all the different brands of chocolate chips you can buy at the store. Same cookie, different names. ( )
