As a mystery they are pretty good. This is the second featuring the two principal characters and it did drag a little when they were not sparring - but I am sure that is something that will be overcome when (hopefully) the next with these characters comes out. There are others in the series with different characters which are on my to read list. Questa recensione è stata scritta per gli Omaggi dei Membri di LibraryThing . All the fun of a who done it with the bubbles of romance added for fun. An engaging read that keeps you guessing until the end. I truly enjoyed the fact that the female lead wasn't a shrinking violet nor a winsome lass on a mission to save the man of her dreams. Questa recensione è stata scritta per gli Omaggi dei Membri di LibraryThing . I received this from Library Thing to read and review. This is a well written historical mystery. Pru is single, what they referred to in her time as a spinster. She attends a house party given by her cousin Eric Knibbs. When Eric is found dead, hanging outside his window, Pru sets off to figure out how and why he really died. In her efforts, she is aided by an old friend, Knighton Gaunt of the Second Sons Inquiry Agency. As the two delve in to this mystery seeking the truth, they discover the secrets of the household and Eric, leading them down many, intriguing paths. One thing that also develops is a strong relationship between Pru and Knighton, which evolves into a romance and attraction neither had figured on. The author has written a great tale of intrigue and mystery, set in a long ago historical period, filled with historical charm of the Regency era. Though I normally do not enjoy reading historical romances, I enjoyed watching how this plot unfolded and how the relationship developed between main characters. This is a great stand-alone novel, although, if you enjoy this, you would also enjoy the other books in this series. Questa recensione è stata scritta per gli Omaggi dei Membri di LibraryThing . A cozy and romantic historical mystery with great characters and a plot that pulls the reader in and doesn't let go until the end. I could not put this book down! The writing flows well, the two MCs are smart, and the story unfolds like a mixture of Clue, Downton Abbey, and Midsomer Murders set during the Regency period. Although I suggest reading the prior books in this series as well as any others with some of the same characters, you can read this novel as a stand-alone.LT Member Giveaway nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Unexpected deaths haunt Prudence Barnard, even after Knighton Gaunt of the famous Second Sons Inquiry Agency proved Prudence was innocent of murder at Rosecrest. Trying to escape the notoriety, she accepts an invitation to visit a hitherto unknown cousin, Eric Knibbs. Unfortunately their reunion is short-lived. Eric is found dead, hanging from a noose outside his bedroom window, apparently a suicide. Despite not knowing her cousin very well, Pru knows Eric was afraid of heights and he seemed to have no reason to commit suicide. Her suspicions increase when she exams his room and finds other anomalies, all of which make her question the coroner's conclusions. Most of all, Pru can't help but wonder why Eric's body was positioned to overlook the garden and elaborate maze at the rear of the house.Lonely and afraid, Pru seeks help from her old friend, Knighton. Together, they learn the maze has a dark past and the inhabitants of Kennington Manor are not as content as they appear. Prudence is not prepared, however, for her growing attraction to Knighton nor the strange paths she must follow to discover the deadly truth at the heart of the mystery. The Dead Man's View is the sequel to The Vital Principle, however each book stands alone so the reader can enjoy The Dead Man's View without reading The Vital Principle first. A quaint historical whodunit that had me guessing right up until the culprit was unmasked. Very Agatha Christie. Mystery and suspense readers that like the classics will thoroughly enjoy The Dead Man's View. ( )
