A child is having bad luck as he gets ready for school, but when he gets to school he gets a gold star on his homework.

There are a few reasons I like this book. The first reason is because of the point of view. The point of view was first person, the little boy who was having a bad day was telling the story, "Ouch, I hit my head! Out my window, I see gray. What a day. A bad, bad day." From this piece of text you can see that the point of view suits the perspective of the story very well compared to if it was written in third person. I feel that children are able to relate to the story more, when it is told in first person. Second, I liked the illustrations throughout the story. They clearly fit the theme of having a bad day, showing incidents like getting toothpaste on your school shirt, spilling your breakfast on the floor, and missing the school bus. Children are able to visualize these incidents and relate to the mood of the story. Lastly, I enjoyed the language used throughout the story. The language was once again in a rhyming pattern, which enhances the child's want to read simply because it is more fun to read a book when it rhymes. "A bad, bad day. We'll take the car! What a day! I got a star!" You can see here that lines two and four rhyme with the words car, and star. Overall, I feel that the 'big idea' of this book was to show kids that even when your day might not be going as well as you wanted, there is always hope in making it better. At the end of the boys bad day in the book, he got a star, showing that even in the midst of bad there is some good. ( )

A simpe book made for beginner readers. The pictures are a bit too busy. The simple text does make it easy to read; children like it because they can relate. Everyone has had a bad day before! ( )
