This reads a bit like a promotional brochure for Jewish summer camp. There is really no story other than a boy telling his mom that he didn't have to take baths at camp, and listing the activities he enjoyed there. Perhaps a small child will like the repetition of the phrase "but there are NO BATHS AT CAMP!" It does portray Jewish summer camp as a fun experience, which most campers would agree that it is, and might spark an interest in attending at an older age. “No Baths at Camp” is a great book to read to students leisurely or to get them excited about different activities they can do at camp. However, this is more tailored to children who are Jewish because there are references made such as, “Devorah, the camp director, stands in front and calls out, ‘Shabbat Shalom everyone!’” If students are nervous about going to a Jewish camp this would be a great book to read to them, but this is not a book I would particularly want in my classroom because of the religious references. The main message of this story is that going to camp is fun, and many friendships are made. Particularly for the main character in the story he is the most excited by the fact he does not need to take a bath at camp. ( )
