With Love and Other Scandals, bestselling and RITA Award-winning author Caroline Linden launches a scandalously sexy new historical romance series set in Regency England. Joan Bennett is a breath away from being a spinster. She's had four seasons without a suitor. After reading a shockingly sensuous book, Fifty Ways to Sin, Joan decides perhaps it's time to stop being proper and start being sinful, while she's still young enough to enjoy it. And what better partner than her brother's drinking mate, Viscount Burke? He seems the type to know how to give a lady a lascivious adventure. It seems that the viscount has qualms about trifling with a friend's sister. That's the way to end up betrothed. And he doesn't want that-or does he?… (altro)

Love and Other Scandals is a slow burn historical romance between Joan, a 24-year-old tall and curvy spinster, and Tristan, a 28-year-old rake.

This book is really cute. I really like Joan. I love how snarky she can be and how she stands toe to toe with Tristan (although she's somewhat meek around others, especially her mother).

Tristan is kind of an ass in the beginning, but he improves a lot over the course of the book. I ended up really liking him, too.

Joan's aunt and dad are also pretty awesome, but I didn't like Joan's mom or brother nearly as much. Her mom is controlling and her brother is immature. Joan's brother is the hero in another book in the series, so hopefully he grows up between this book and that one. ( )

I grew tired of all the, "those dresses look awful on you! don't you know!?" and spinster remarks. Also, I laughed so hard at the not so subtle 50 Shades references (the FMC reads a pamphlet for ladies called 50 Ways to Sin - considering the time this book was released, 2013, I understand why that series is a reference). Anyway, this was only alright. There are other books by this author that I would recommend before Love and Other Scandals. ( )

Almost good. Tends toward mediocre. ( )

Love and Other Scandals
5 Stars

Joan Bennet (no relation to Lizzie) has become accustomed to being the resident wallflower, but when she encounters her brother's best friend shirtless and sexy, she is willing to relinquish her role in favor of a flirtation. That is until he opens his mouth.

Tact is not Tristan Burke's forte, in fact, he has a reputation for being rude, roguish and rebellious. So, it is no surprise that his conversations with Joan invariably end with insult and umbrage until one ends with a kiss.

And so begins a fantastically fun and engaging romance with charming characters, sizzling chemistry and wonderful wit. Looking forward to reading the next one ASAP. ( )

Joan Bennet meets her older brother’s best mate while still young. Viscount Tristan Burke is invited to their home, but after some shenanigans he’s never invited again. Which, we find out later, is par for the course with him. When Joan meets him again, she’s a grown woman with four Seasons under her belt and no prospects interested in her tall self. Tristan isn’t interested either. Or is he?

This is a fun and steamy historical romance with great characters and an interesting plot. The world building is awesome and the romance is woof. *grabs a fan* There’s humor aplenty, too. I totally enjoyed this. It kept me entertained on the long drive from NC to OH and back again. ( )
