As St. Nick and eight tiny reindeer derive through a brilliant night sky onto the roof of a Victorian house in a snowy New England village, the famous Christmas poem begins. The father of the children is up and about when he spots old Saint Nick. He watches as he comes down from the roof top with his bag full of goodies for the children, comes down the chimney and places the gifts, and then touches his nose and back up the chimney he goes.
Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed reading this book. I can remember as a child thinking how magical it was during Christmas time wondering how Santa came in to drop off the toys and how he always knew if you had been good or bad. The illustration in this book gives the reader a bigger idea of how the story unfolds and also helps the reader make a better connection with the book.
Classroom Extensions:
1. Ask the students about any traditions at Christmas time their family might have
2. Make the child write a poem over the magic they feel during Christmas night ( )
