I love reading journal style books and this was certainly that format. I love reading about the farm life and this was also certainly that.
For me, this book was good but it was not great. I have read her other two books Made From Scratch and Barnheart and out of all of them Barnheart is my favorite.

The artwork in this is lovely and the look at a year on the farm is great but it is a bit too much of a disjointed journal for me to love it. I wish she had written more practical farm advise, shared more recipes and personal stories and farming experiences into it but I don't think that was her goal. I think it was meant to be more of a gift/artsy type book. I am ok with that... it is what some were hoping for and I am glad they enjoyed it.

She also went more "spiritual" in this one and we don't agree with the history of religion. I don't hold that against her and I feel she is free to express that however she likes but I cannot love the book because I think more research on her part might be needed. I am of Irish/English descent and even I know the Celtic/Druid religion was not the first world religion. I guess it is if you disregard the Jews or the Bible but... I cannot. That aspect kind of tainted it for me.

I still love Jenna and her writing but if you are going to read something of her's I recommend Barnheart instead. I still want to take a look at her Chick Days book... it looks helpful! :) ( )

One Woman Farm is a memoir about the author's experiences starting up and continuing to live on a small (6 acres) farm in upstate New York. The book is organized by month, beginning in October and running through the next October. In some cases she gives general information about work that has to be done annually during a specific month and in some cases recounts experiences she had during a month in the first year. ( )

Sort of a wee commonplace book of farm and seasons. Very pleasant, and I like how the illustrations complement the book. As an ardent reader of Jenna's blog, though, I have to say I was hoping for more or different. My favorite book is still "Made fron Scratch" for sheer amount of personal anecdotes and how to do things. This one, while a very lovely contemplation on how everyday live can be sacred and should be reverenced, was ultimately not as satisfying to me. I think the original title was supposed to be "Days of Grace" -- that reflects the timbre of the book better I think. Still, a beautiful little book and full of Jenna's trademark passion and conviction. ( )

I read this as an e-book checked out from my library. It was quite obviously not edited before distribution as it only included the first page of each chapter. I gave it two stars since I liked what little I read. Very disappointed since I read Jenna's blog and was looking forward to reading this book. ( )

I live in a relatively rural area, had several acres of land to play on as a kid, and as an adult I dream of living a real country life - as impractical as it may be in reality - growing my own veggies, raising fiber animals, rescuing stray animals. I requested this book to read from net galley (in exchange for my honest review) because I started my own vegetable garden last year, and am still obsessed with all things farming/gardening.

The book takes you through the seasons, the jobs and the chores of living life on a farm, a life that's just so distant from our current lives. It's similar, yet different, from the blog.

This book is gorgeous, well designed, great stories, escape reading at its best, and a very quick read - just one sitting. I especially liked reading about the bees (not anything I'd want on my dream farm) and just the day to day adventures on Cold Antler Farm. ( )
